Port Aransas is home to many visitors from the northern states and welcomingly referred to as” Winter Texans” or “Snow Birds.” This small Texas island offers many adventures for our winter guests that include bird watching, fishing trips, the Whooping Crane Festival, pottery classes, guided tours and many, more memorable events and activities to enjoy!
The island has many Winter Texans who visit year after year and consider Port Aransas their home away from home. With many staying 1-4 months at a monthly rental rate vs. a nightly rate; it’s important to provide everything these long-term visitors will need for an extended stay in a vacation rental which ours often include heated pools, hot tubs, outdoor spaces, ocean views, and golf-cart access.
We pride ourselves in offering the best stays for our Winter Texans visiting Port Aransas.
Every property manager should always provide the important essentials for our Winter Texans which include plenty of blankets and pillow for beds, sofa sleepers and throw blankets in all living areas. Many Winter Texans will often invite their families to Port Aransas for temporary stays and at SWAY we make an effort to provide a comfortable and inviting space for their temporary guests as well.
Although Port Aransas has some of the best eateries in the country to include Roosevelts, The Phoenix, Black Marlin, Irie’s Island Food and Lisa Bella’s; we’ve found that the Winter Texans can’t eat out for every meal given the length of their rental. Winter Texans can expect a well stocked kitchen to prep, bake, entertain, and dine conveniently and comfortably at each of properties. SWAY consistently inventories kitchens before the winter season in order to ensure our long-term Winter Texan guests have everything they need cook at their “second home.”
Given our Winter Texan guests sometimes cross country, we understand one cannot pack every essential for this amount of time. Knowing this, SWAY ensures they arrive to a well-stocked oasis with linens and towels, WIFI, TV’s, and a starter kit to include paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, coffee with sugar and creamer, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, trash bags and many other necessities for easy acclimation to their new life in Port Aransas.
SWAY has a great selection of vacation rentals for Winter Texans to include larger homes to accommodate their families and friends for temporary visits during their stay, in addition to our smaller condos with breath-taking ocean views for the Winter Texans who really want the ocean front experience. We have some rentals that include first-level access and limited stairs for those needing more accessibility. Understanding pets are family, several of our vacation homes are pet friendly for inclusion of our 4 legged friends.
With mild temperatures, our Winter Texan friends have the opportunity to embark in the ocean breeze with golf cart access. We offer our Winter Texans a golf cart rental discount from Island Outfitters and Coastal Carts.
To fully experience Port Aransas, many guests emerge themselves in the island life as if they were full time residents. These snowbirds can volunteer at the ARK to help with our island wildlife from pelicans to sea turtles. The ARK organizes beach clean ups and those who like to work with yarn- they can join the bollard buddies, which is a tourism attraction all in itself.
For the Winter Texans who enjoy art, culture and drama, Port Aransas doesn’t lack. Enjoy the museum tours and find many volunteer positions at the local theatre club.
Port Aransas is a sanctuary to those who enjoy writing in this quiet, beautiful and inspirational place, and is a Mecca for those who capture life through the lens. Our beach sunrises are some of the most spectacular over the Gulf of Mexico with the sunsets over Corpus Christi Bay. There’s no doubt that our Winter Texans can capture the best of island life through writing and photography hobbies.
What many visitors are surprised to hear about, is the bird life in Port Aransas, TX. From spoon bills to whooping cranes, you can spend hours bird-watching. You can also find the famous Port Aransas alligator in some of the nature hot-spots. He’s quiet and slow. He won’t bother you, but he loves a great photo-op! The Leonabelle Birding Center is our recommended destination for wild-life exploration.
Given our love for serving our guests at the highest level, our staff is always a phone call away. If our Winter Texans have any special requests or family contact information they want to provide- we’re happy to keep it on hand. We love being that extra helping-hand!
